Fuel weight adds up fast
At 7.1 lb/gal, 100 gallons is about 710 lb and 200 gallons is about 1,420 lb. On a tractor with large dual tanks, the difference between near-empty and full can materially affect scale weight.
Where the tanks sit matters
Fuel is usually carried along the tractor frame, so added fuel primarily affects tractor axle groups rather than trailer tandems. The exact steer/drive split depends on tank location and tractor geometry.
Fuel burn changes axle weight during the trip
As fuel is consumed, gross weight falls. Tractor axle weights also change gradually. That can matter when loading close to a target, but do not use expected fuel burn as a substitute for meeting applicable limits when starting the trip.
Use the actual gallons added
For a before/after estimate, multiply the gallons purchased by the density value. If you need a more exact density, use supplier or fuel-temperature information rather than assuming the default is exact.
