RV Trip Planning

Check the rig. Then plan the road.

TowAtlas is built to help you understand payload, towing, axle, hitch and real scale limits. RV LIFE Pro and RV LIFE Trip Wizard cover the next part of the job: planning an RV-specific route, stops and navigation.

Why RV LIFE fits the TowAtlas workflow

Towing safely is not one calculation. First you need to understand whether the truck, trailer and hitch combination fits within the applicable ratings. After that, you still need to decide how to get the rig where it is going.

That is where RV LIFE Pro is relevant. TowAtlas focuses on the numbers behind the combination. RV LIFE focuses on RV travel planning, campground research and navigation. Used together, they cover two different parts of the same trip.

The simple version: use TowAtlas to check the setup, use real scale weights when possible, then use an RV-specific planning tool to build the trip.

What RV LIFE Pro includes

RV LIFE Pro currently bundles several RV travel tools under one subscription. The core trip-planning feature is RV LIFE Trip Wizard, which can build RV-specific routes using information about the rig and route preferences.

The subscription also includes RV-safe GPS navigation through the RV LIFE app, offline navigation, campground research, maintenance tools and RV education resources. Features can change over time, so check RV LIFE directly for the current package before subscribing.

A practical towing workflow

  1. Verify the tow vehicle. Use the exact truck ratings rather than a model-line maximum.
  2. Build a realistic loaded trailer weight. Include water, propane, batteries, gear and cargo.
  3. Check the whole combination. Compare payload, tow rating, GVWR, GCWR where applicable, axle ratings, hitch rating and tire limits.
  4. Verify with real weights when possible. A CAT Scale ticket can show what the loaded combination is actually doing.
  5. Plan the route for the actual RV. Once the rig checks out, use RV-specific routing and campground tools to plan the trip.

What RV-specific routing can help with

A route that works for a passenger car is not automatically a good route for a truck and travel trailer, fifth wheel or motorhome. RV LIFE says Trip Wizard can use RV dimensions and weight information to customize routes and help account for issues such as low clearances, weight restrictions, steep grades and propane restrictions.

It can also help organize campgrounds, fuel stops, points of interest, driving distances and elevation information. Planned trips can sync into the RV LIFE mobile app for navigation.

Important: routing software is a planning aid, not permission to ignore posted signs, temporary restrictions, road conditions or manufacturer limitations. Always verify the road in front of you.

Current RV LIFE Pro pricing

RV LIFE currently lists RV LIFE Pro at $65 per year, which includes a 7-day free trial for eligible new annual subscribers. RV LIFE also lists a monthly option at $19.99 per month, with different trial terms.

Pricing and promotions can change. TowAtlas recommends confirming the current price and subscription terms directly with RV LIFE before purchasing.

What RV LIFE does not replace

RV-specific routing does not determine whether your truck has enough payload, whether the rear axle is overloaded, whether the hitch is within its rating or whether the combination is within GCWR. Those are separate towing questions.

Likewise, TowAtlas does not replace road signs, bridge postings, manufacturer documentation, professional inspection or driver judgment. The strongest workflow is to verify the combination and plan the route as two separate checks.
