What sliding tandems changes
Moving the trailer tandem changes how weight is shared between the tractor drive axles and trailer axle group. It does not change total gross combination weight.
Direction matters
The needed direction depends on which axle group needs weight moved away from it. Use your actual scale ticket and your trailer’s behavior rather than relying on a memorized rule without checking the numbers.
Pounds per hole varies
The weight transferred per hole is not universal. Trailer geometry, slider spacing and load position affect the result. A value learned from previous weigh/slide/reweigh cycles on that equipment is more useful than a generic assumption.
When sliding cannot solve it
If both drive and trailer axle groups exceed the targets you entered, sliding tandems cannot reduce both at once. If gross weight is the problem, sliding cannot reduce gross.
Always reweigh
Use an estimator to plan the adjustment, make the move, lock the tandems correctly, and obtain another certified weight before relying on the new axle weights.
Common questions
Does sliding tandems change gross weight?
No. It redistributes weight between axle groups.
Should I reweigh after sliding tandems?
Yes. Reweigh after the adjustment before relying on the result.
